Things to Get Your Blog to the Next Level

If you have been blogging for some time and only seeing mediocre success, you are probably wondering what else you can do to grow your site and make more money online. Sometimes it is hard to know what is important to focus on with the times changing so fast in the online world. What may have worked 6 months ago may not achieve the same results 6 months from now. Times change and so should you.

Re-Focus on Content

Instead of trying to game the system, a necessary step to increase your blog’s traffic and income is to focus on content. Income naturally follows readers and the best way to increase your readership is to write quality content. You want to make it interesting and informational – otherwise, why would anyone read your blog (anyone other than your Mother, that is). Publishing something just to keep your blog active just isn’t going to cut it.

Another thing related to content is posting frequency. You may understand that content is king, but how often should you publish? While you may be able to maintain your blog posting 2-3 times per week, if you increase your post frequency, you may be able to increase your traffic.

The Little Things Matter

While you may think that if you focus just on content, your blog will eventually grow to become the next famous blog that sells for millions. While this is a great goal and something to strive for, most likely, it won’t happen. Not until you take care of the small things. I used to believe that people would eventually find my site and come to love it as much as I do, but I have also realized that it takes doing the small things.

Professional Look: I used to think that having a premium theme for WordPress didn’t matter as much, but there are so many benefits to buying a premium theme. I just recently upgraded 20’s Finances to a premium theme. Not only does the site load faster, but it looks a lot more professional. Now, when people visit my site, they will not be turned off by the ugly navigation menu that I once had. Instead, they have more confidence and trust in what I am saying because it looks nice. This may sound superficial, but it is a part of the process that we as readers use to evaluate credibility.

Networking: As we discussed already, networking is essential. In other words, you have to put the word out about your blog. This means commenting, tweeting, updating your Facebook page, etc. All of the small things do matter if you want to be a well-known blog. Because corporations can afford to pay people to manage these services, readers have come to expect just as much from “hobby-bloggers” (people who also have a day job). You may not have all the time in the world, but it is possible to manage all of these steps in your spare time.

Performing these routine tasks will not make your blog grow from nothing to well-known in any short period of time – but it will keep you in the ring, competing for readers. The more I have learned about blogging, the more convinced I am that it takes a well-rounded approach to see success. Be sure to play to your advantages, but don’t forget about an essential aspect. Doing so can only delay success and money.
