Lisa’s Plan to Make $30,000 in 2012

Cents To Save is written by Lisa and is part money-saving advice / part real-life adventures diary.  Lisa started Cents To Save in 2006 as an online account of her saving and spending.  After seeing that you could make a few pennies with AdSense over the years, it was last year that her blogging income of $3200.00 has motivated her to move forward and increase her online money earnings with a lofty goal of $30,000.

The Early Years

My early blogging was a great way for me to keep track of my spending and saving.  Watching the increases in my savings and sharing my successes (no matter how small) with others always made me feel like I had accomplished something.  Another positive aspect of blogging is the friendships and relationships that you build online.  Over the years I have learned so much!

One of the interesting things I did learn was that you can actually make money blogging.  In the early years I did earn a few dollars with AdSense.  It probably took me a couple of years to reach a payout, but I still thought that was pretty cool.  My blog was growing, people were commenting and the revenue increased at a faster rate.  By faster, I mean it only took one year to reach an AdSense payout.

Last Year’s Earnings

Last year’s earnings were a bit more significant for meCents To Save  earned about $3200.00 in revenue and I was thrilled!  My Page Rank increased from a 1 to a 3, which at the time I did not realize the significance of.  The earnings last year have motivated me to step up my game and increase my online earnings to $30,000.  Oh, I realize that is a huge increase over my current online earnings, but there is 12 months to accomplish this goal and I am going for it.

Here Are the Plans So Far…..

I will continue to build the reader audience for Cents To Save   by increasing my interaction with fellow bloggers and my blog readers.  My goal is to build yearly revenue of at least $10,000 with ads.

I recently started offering  proofreading/editing  services for bloggers as well. This is a new business opportunity for me, but I am well qualified for the job.  My degree is in education, and I have always had a knack for finding little mistakes in papers that I have graded in the past.   I estimate that this service will provide an income of approximately $5000.00 per year.  That breaks down to about $100.00 per week.  I am not quite there yet, but it is early in the game.  The business will definitely grow with time.

New Ventures

Countdown to Sixty  is my newest website.  When I say newest, I mean it is brand spanking new!!  This website is my first experience with wordpress.    I have always heard great things about using the wordpress platform but never tried it.  The blogger platform was always so comfortable for me.   This website will be aimed at the aging generation (of which I am a part of, even though I hate to admit it) and the different aspects that affect your health, income and retirement.   I intend to provide great content but with a less personal spin.  Now I have to figure out how to ad AdSense to it so it can start earning a little bit of cash.

The Numbers Fall Short…..

The numbers fall short for now.  By my predictions and calculations, my current plans will only earn $15,000 this year.  But this is only January and I will strive to increase my earnings by building both blogs, become more comfortable with offering other services to fellow bloggers.  By participating in this challenge I hope to learn more about increasing my online income.  And whatever the final tally is, I know that actually getting out there and trying is better than just sitting back and thinking about it.

Do you have any suggestions for me or my blogs?  I welcome your comments and constructive criticism.

Glad to see you join the challenge Lisa! In my experience, if you do a good job with virtual assistant work, you will get many more jobs due to referrals. You may be surprised to see your income grow more than you thought possible. I’ll be cheering for you!

  2. Even $3000 to $15000 is pretty nice by anyone’s standards — that is 500% growth! I agree that it’s better to get out there and try, and I like the idea of the countdown to 60 site! It seems that everyone is starting a new site these days. 😉

Lisa. I think you’ve done a great job with your main site so far, and I bet you can earn $10,000 with it in 2012. I think your new site could be quite an asset to your earnings, but you need to build it up FAST (before the next Google PR update).

Corey and I (as well as many others) are actually doing the same thing. I have started the site, Creating A Passive Income and I’m commenting on other blogs, writing guest posts, and targeting some key words to bring in some Google traffic. I think we need to be ready by mid-February to be safe.

Good luck! I know you’ll do great!

  4. I think you will be surprised when the money starts rolling in, especially as your new site is established.

I agree with Derek about getting ready for the next update. It’s tough work… I wanted to write another guest post or two last night, but was too tired. I am hoping I find some inspiration this weekend so that I can adequately prepare for the update.

    You will do great!

  5. Good luck Lisa. WordPress is great, but blogger is too. It depends on what you want to do and how you want to do it. I’ve used both platforms.

Wow, I am very interested in learning how to get a blog started, and also how to be a virtual assistant. Any suggestions of places to look would be greatly appreciated. Love this site.
