How YFS Plan’s to Make $30,000 in 2012

YFS is owner and author of Your Finances Simplified. He was born and raised in West Philadelphia and is now a financial adviser, IT contractor, landlord, and treasurer of a non-profit. I started my blog with the intent of providing easy to following financial tips. I had no clue about monetization, and as a matter of fact I didn’t care about making online money from my blog. As I said before my objective was to simply provide easy to follow financial tips.

That changed real quick once I started reading how other bloggers are making a pretty good living from their blogs. I like to talk, write, read personal finance. If I can help others and get paid to do it. Why not?

So when I heard of the 30k in 2012 challenge I knew this would be a tough goal to accomplish. Why? Well my blog has only been around since October of 2011, I have a limited network, low page rank and little to no back links to my blog. I feel as though I don’t have enough influence to make any real money from my blog… yet. But, I’m always up for a challenge! Even if I fail at least I will learn something in the process and achieve some of my other blog related goals.

Income Breakdown

Staff Writing

The first thing I thought of when trying to come up with ways to make money from my blog was staff writing. Not just any old staff writing. I would offer the client a choice between basic, premium and platinum services. In order to get clients you need to do more than mimic the competition. So far my plan offerings have worked. Without advertising I bring in $300 a month in staff writing. I hope to earn $1000 per month from staff writing.

I have been working my tail off since the last page rank update to get my blog quality back links. Hopefully, my plan will pay off during the page rank update. This will allow me to earn more via Google Ad Sense, sponsored posts and affiliate earnings. I hope to earn $1500 per month from advertisements. I’m currently making $500 per month from various advertisements.

Huge Income Gap!

As you can see from my current earnings that I have a rather large income gap to make up. Look I told you it wasn’t going to be easy. Good thing is I have a plan to get there. Below are the tactics I will use to achieve my 2012 goals.

The key to my success will be directly related to how well I network. Your best clients come from referrals. My intent for 2012 is build a quality network of personal finance bloggers who not only help me in other blogging goals but could recommend my services to their network. The better my circle of influence the greater chance I have at getting more staff writing clients.

Direct Sales

Another approach I will take aside from networking and getting referrals is a direct sales campaign. Instead of being passive I will take a more active approach at gaining clients. Referrals of course are best, but you can often times get clients by simply being consist and inquiring if they need you.

Outsourcing Advertising

Lastly, I will my contact more established bloggers to negotiate advertisement deals on my behalf. As of today outsourcing advertisements has been one of my best decisions. I have no problem negotiating the deals. My problem is finding the deals. To alleviate this problem I will pay a small fee per deal for someone to bring advertiser in.

I think my plan is ultimately a good one. It definitely won’t be a get 30k quick plan but it will set me up to make some good money in 2012 and a lot more money in 2013.

I know I don’t need to offer any encouraging words – you’re one of the most motivated people I know. You’ll definitely get there. Keep up the great work!

  3. How do you start off your intro with born and raised in west Philadelphia and not “West Philadelphia born and raised” (on the playground is where I spent most of my days)? hahaha. Now that’s stuck in my head.

That’s a lot of staff writing! I tried staff writing for a while but I got burnt out really quickly. If you can do it, more power to you!

Staff writing definitely is tough but developing a system and sticking to it makes it much much easier.

  5. Nice plan. I’m sure it will all fall into place. I know you have the motivation and dedication to make it happen. Best wishes!!!

  6. I think you can do it if you stick to your goals. Reach out to some of the leaders on the leaderboard and see if they can send some advertisers your way!
